The Kilifi Department of Water, Environment, Climate Change & Forestry, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN ESARO – ReSea project), had the pleasure of hosting 150 passionate climate change ward committee members from Matsangoni, Dabaso, Sabaki, Magarini, and Gongoni wards in Kilifi County. The workshop aimed to bolster climate and socio-economic resilience in coastal communities in Kilifi. The workshop brought together diverse groups, including women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), men and Environmentalists stakeholders .
Objectives of the workshop:
1. Sensitize the ward climate change planning committees and the community on matters of climate change to enhance community understanding.
2.strengthening the devolved structure climate financing through Financially Locally -Led of Climate Action (FLLoCA)
3. Review the ward Participatory Climate Risk Assessment (PCRA) and prioritize adaptation strategies for each ward.
4. Enhance the mission of our department, which is inclusion and collaboration, alongside our main partners in the activity, the IUCN – ReSea project and mission inclusion
Through this partnership, the county under the leadership of His Excellency Gideon Maitha Mung’aro is dedicated to implementing nature-based climate adaptation solutions and economically empowering communities in various value chains, fostering investment in environmentally friendly enterprises to alleviate the socio-economic status of coastal communities.
