The amendment of the Kilifi County Government Solid Waste Management Act, 2019, is taking shape with significant progress being made. Through our WWF-Kenya Circular Economy Initiative, in collaboration with the Packaging Producers Responsibility Organization (Pakpro KENYA ) and Hand in Hand Eastern Africa in Hand Eastern Africa, and under the leadership of Zamzam Ali – Kilifi County Chief Officer for Kilifi Department of Water, Environment, Climate Change & Forestry, we conducted capacity-building training for county and municipality environmental officers. Participants formed a technical committee that reviewed the act and identified gaps, based on circular economy principles, the Waste Management Act (2022), draft Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, and the draft County model bill. #stopplasticpollution
