International Forests Day

Company
Today, The Department of Environment, Coukate change and Forestry , under the leadership of Chief Officer Zamzam Ali and Directors Jimmy Kahindi and Kanundu Ng’umbao , actively participated in this year’s International Day of Forests (#IDF2024 )with the theme “Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World” at Msumarini Primary School, Kilifi South.
The event, aligned with the national government’s ambitious initiative to plant #15BillionTrees, successfully facilitated the planting of 1000 trees, with some being planted in Msumarini and others donated to students and neighbors. Distinguished leaders from various governmental and nongovernmental organizations, including Kenya Forest Service Ministry of Interior and National Administration and Kilifi County Government officials, graced the occasion with their presence. Each speaker highlighted the crucial role of tree planting in environmental conservation and emphasized the imperative of halting tree cutting to achieve the 15 billion tree cover target. Chief Officer Zamzam Ali delivered a compelling message urging industries in Kilifi South to innovate for pollution reduction, address harmful gases, and collaborate to expand tree covers around their facilities. Embracing technology and innovation to conserve trees while optimizing energy consumption was also emphasized. As a department guided by the green movement Champion of H.E Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro, we are steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that Kilifi County leads in forest cover expansion through the enhancement of all our county seedling nurseries.
