Together with my team from kilifi attending the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.
The conference, under the theme Unite, Act, Deliver, started off in high spirits as we shared experiences and actions taken to mitigate climate change in our areas of administration.
In his opening remarks, COP28 President Dr. Sultan Aljaber praised Kenyan President H.E. Dr. Wiliam Ruto for his “unprecedented climate brilliance” in bringing Africa together for the inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS).
Additionally, a total of $500 million was raised for the Loss and Damage (L&D) kitty on the first day of the conference. The developing countries burdened by the negative impacts of climate change are set to secure financial support from developed and high-emitting countries through the L&D kitty.
As a county, we are a climate change champion, and our commitment was the enactment of the Climate Change amendment Act of 2023, which allocated 2% of our development budget to climate change.
