Development and Conservation of Forest Resources

Empowering Kilifi Together: Nurturing Growth, Building Sustainable Futures

Enhancing Kilifi’s Forests for Sustainability and Biodiversity

At the Department of Water, Environment, Climate Change & Forestry, our mandate for the development and conservation of forest resources is vital for maintaining ecological balance and promoting sustainable land use. We focus on advancing forest management practices that support both environmental health and community needs.

Key Initiatives

Forest Development

We undertake reforestation and afforestation projects to restore degraded lands and increase forest cover. These initiatives help improve air quality, prevent soil erosion, and enhance biodiversity in Kilifi.

Conservation Strategies

Our conservation efforts aim to protect existing forests from deforestation and degradation. We enforce regulations to prevent illegal logging and land encroachment, ensuring the preservation of critical forest ecosystems.

Community Involvement

We collaborate with local communities to promote sustainable forest management practices. Through community forestry programs, we encourage responsible use of forest resources and provide support for local conservation efforts.

Biodiversity Protection

We work to preserve the rich biodiversity within our forested areas. This includes monitoring wildlife habitats, protecting endangered species, and promoting conservation awareness among residents.

Sustainable Resource Use

We advocate for and implement sustainable methods of forest resource utilization, balancing the needs for timber, fuel, and other forest products with conservation goals.

Our goal is to foster a harmonious relationship between people and forests, ensuring that Kilifi’s forest resources are developed and conserved effectively for the benefit of present and future generations.
