Empowering Kilifi Together: Nurturing Growth, Building Sustainable Futures

Mitigating and Adapting to Climate Impacts

The Climate Change Division within the Department of Water, Environment, Climate Change & Forestry is dedicated to addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Our division focuses on developing strategies for both mitigation and adaptation, aiming to reduce the impacts of climate change on Kilifi County’s environment, economy, and communities.

Key Responsibilities

Climate Action Planning

We develop and implement comprehensive climate action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance resilience to climate impacts. Our strategies include promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable land use practices.

Adaptation Strategies

We work on initiatives to help communities adapt to the changing climate. This involves assessing climate risks, developing adaptation measures for agriculture, water resources, and infrastructure, and supporting vulnerable populations in building resilience.

Policy and Regulation

Our division formulates and enforces policies related to climate change mitigation and adaptation. We ensure that local and regional strategies align with national and international climate agreements and standards.

Climate Research and Data

We conduct research to understand climate trends and their potential impacts on the county. This includes collecting and analyzing climate data to inform decision-making and support evidence-based planning.

Public Awareness and Education

We engage with the community to raise awareness about climate change and promote actions that individuals and businesses can take to reduce their carbon footprint. Educational programs and workshops are central to our outreach efforts.

Partnerships and Collaboration
We collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to leverage resources and expertise in tackling climate change. These partnerships enhance our capacity to implement effective climate solutions and access funding opportunities.

Our goal is to build a climate-resilient Kilifi County by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for the effects of climate change, ensuring a sustainable future for our environment and communities.
