I was delighted to meet members of Bunge la Wanawake, a dynamic grassroots organization led by women from diverse backgrounds and professions in the 4 wards of Rabai Sub-county. The group’s aim is to establish a networking platform that promotes women empowerment and climate action, with plans to expand this initiative to all 7 Sub-counties in Kilifi County.
The Bunge la Wanawake caucus focuses on promoting environmental conservation and climate change resilience by encouraging every school child to plant a tree in their name, while parents are encouraged to plant trees for their children during special occasions like birthdays. This strategy aims to significantly decrease the impact of climate change in our community.
Furthermore, the women’s caucus will play a crucial role in advocating for increased representation and support for women in decision-making processes related to healthcare, mental health, education, and water sectors. They will also work towards providing women with access to affordable finance, credit, technology, and social protection, all essential for women to enjoy their rights to a dignified and sustainable life in Kilifi County.
