Today, I held a meeting with business mogul and Formula 1 Ambassador Flavio Briatore and Stephano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1 Group. The meeting focused on the establishment of a 100-megawatt solar power plant through a public-private partnership agreement, with the Kilifi County Government as the primary shareholder.
The Kilifi Directorate of Energy, has conducted a thorough feasibility study, identifying two optimal sites at Weru Group Ranch and Mapotea Group Ranch. These sites were chosen for their advantageous proximity to the high-voltage Ketraco power line, facilitating the generation and injection of electricity into the main grid.
Efforts are underway within the government to create the Kilifi County Energy Corporation, which will act as an investment platform for energy initiatives in the county. This corporation will enable partnerships with private sector energy entities and enhance electricity distribution services within the county.
These initiatives aim to reduce the environmental impact of conventional energy sources, while promoting economic growth and energy security within Kilifi County. Additionally, they will create employment opportunities and enhance access to clean, sustainable energy for the residents of Kilifi.
