Large-Scale Tree Planting

Company
Today marked a significant achievement in our commitment to combating climate change through a large-scale tree planting initiative across our county. We brought together a diverse coalition of stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and partners, to plant a mix of terrestrial species and invaluable mangrove seedlings, all aimed at Greening Kilifi. This ambitious project aligns perfectly with our county’s goal of planting and nurturing approximately 15 million trees within the next five years, in line with the national directive of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
In Kilifi South Sub County, we placed special emphasis on mangroves for their crucial role in climate mitigation. Mangroves, such as those planted along Kidundu in Mtwapa Creek, are vital ecosystems that absorb significant amounts of carbon dioxide, protect coastlines, and provide habitats for diverse marine life.
In other areas, like Watamu, 500 seedlings found their new homes, and in Sabaki, an impressive 700 mangrove seedlings were planted, contributing significantly to our collective goal of 200 million trees nationwide.
Together, we are making a real impact in safeguarding our environment and fighting climate change. Let’s continue nurturing these green efforts and paving the way for a more sustainable future for generations to come. We extend our heartfelt thanks for the support from H.E. the governor.
