The Chief Officer for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Ms Zamzam Ali visited the Eco World Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to see how plastic recycling is transforming lives. She applauded the plastic Bank and “Weigh and Pay” scheme, which has empowered over 500 community waste collectors who sell plastic bottles to Eco World , enhancing beach cleanliness and fostering a circular . She was also taken through the recycling process from collection, sorting, binding and final product crushing the plastic waste .
As we Kilifi County Government address our solid waste challenges, particularly plastic pollution, which poses a serious threat to our marine life, it is inspiring to see our local business partners, such as Watamu Hemingway Resort, giving back to the community. Their support for organizations like Eco World in promoting a clean marine environment is commendable. The “Trash to Cash” concept is not only creating green jobs but also raising awareness about environmental stewardship. We encourage other companies to follow this example and actively support their communities in the pursuit of a clean and green environment.
