World wetlands day

Company
Today, we gather here in Kilifi County to celebrate World Wetlands Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of wetlands and the need for their conservation. As the County government of Kilifi , we have a crucial role to play in protecting and preserving the wetlands in our county.
Kilifi County is blessed with diverse wetland ecosystems, from mangroves along the coast to freshwater wetlands inland. These wetlands are not just beautiful landscapes; they are vital for our environment and our communities.
First and foremost, wetlands in Kilifi County are home to a wide range of plant and animal species, many of which are unique and endangered. By protecting these wetlands, we are safeguarding the biodiversity that makes our county so special.
Wetlands also provide numerous benefits to our communities. They act as natural filters, purifying our water and ensuring clean water supplies for our residents. They support fisheries, providing livelihoods for our fishermen. And they offer recreational opportunities, attracting tourists who contribute to our local economy.
Furthermore, in the face of climate change, wetlands in Kilifi County are our allies. They help regulate water cycles, reducing the risk of floods and droughts. They act as natural buffers against storms and rising sea levels, protecting our communities and ensuring our safety.
As the Kilifi County government, we have a responsibility to protect and preserve these valuable wetland ecosystems. We must work together to raise awareness, enforce regulations, and promote sustainable practices that ensure the conservation of our wetlands for future generations.
On this World Wetlands Day, the administration of His excellency Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro and her excellency deputy governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule are reminding all of us to reaffirm our commitment to the protection of our wetlands. Let us strive to be responsible stewards of these ecosystems, ensuring their preservation and sustainable use. Together, we can make a difference and secure a prosperous and sustainable future for Kilifi County.
On this day together we planted 23,211 mangroves .
Thank you .
Yours in Conservation. 🌱
